Cat Club is a SoMa institution that has been running since 1993 on Folsom Street, one of the city's historically leather/LGBTQ corridors. Two dance floors with exposed-brick walls and a go-go cage give it a lived-in, slightly grungy character — this is not a bottle-service-mirror-and-LED-wall club. The crowd skews genuinely mixed: queer and straight, twenties to forties, with a shared taste for music that predates the current EDM moment.
Expect a 350-400 person capacity that keeps things intimate without feeling crowded. Themed nights rotate through 80s, goth/industrial, new wave, 70s disco, and 90s hip hop depending on the night — check the calendar before going because the music format changes completely. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced for SF; there's a smoking alley out back. Open Wed–Sat, 9pm–3am, 21+.
