Hamilton's night scene runs on two poles. Hess Village is the cobblestone strip at Hess and George where the patios stack up and the DJs start after 11, and the downtown core around King William and King East is where the proper clubs live. Between them you get a real range: big-room EDM, dressed-up hip hop, country bars with a mechanical bull, and punk rooms that have outlived every trend that tried to kill them.
The scene keeps reshuffling, so a current list matters. Club Absinthe, a Hamilton institution since 2003, lost its King William room in 2022 and its Hess Street reboot ended with a terminated lease in January 2026. The old Sous Bas basement on Main East got a second life as Andthenyou, now one of the best dance rooms in the city. Pub 36 landed in Hess in 2024 and immediately started running club nights until 4am. This list only carries rooms that are actually open and actually moving.
Ground rules before you head out. Everything here is 19 plus with government photo ID, and Ontario last call means alcohol service wraps at 2am even where doors stay open later. Fridays and Saturdays are the whole game, since most of these rooms sit dark midweek. Guest lists are worth the thirty seconds they take, covers are standard at the club-end of the list, and the McMaster calendar moves the whole city, so expect lines during frosh, homecoming and St. Patrick's week.

It is one of two. The cobblestone strip still runs hard on weekends with SIX15, Gown & Gavel, Pub 36 and Ooey Gooey's all within a block, but it is quieter than its 2010s peak and mostly a Friday and Saturday operation. The other pole is downtown around King William and Catharine, where Seventy Seven, The Underground, Dirty Dog Saloon and MANSION cluster.
It is gone. The original King William Street location closed in mid 2022, the club relaunched at 32 Hess Street South, and that room had its lease terminated in January 2026. Until someone revives the name, Hamilton's longest-running dance night has no home.
Ontario last call means alcohol service ends at 2am everywhere. MANSION lists doors to 3am, SIX15 typically closes between 2 and 3am, and Pub 36 lists weekend hours to 4am, so the party can outlast the bar. Plan your last round before 2.
Not required, but lists are the cheat code. SIX15 runs free entry on guest list regularly and ladies get in free before midnight on Fridays, Seventy Seven takes guest list and booth bookings through its site, and MANSION books bottle tables by contact. Dirty Dog Saloon is simpler, pay the cover at the door.
Everything on this list is 19 plus with valid government photo ID. MANSION spells out the strictest version: Canadian licences, Ontario Photo Cards, US licences and passports pass, and visitors from outside Canada or the US need a passport. Bring physical ID, not a photo of it.
